Today marks exactly one year since my extensive endometriosis surgery in London. Sharing this to hopefully spread some awareness. My diagnosis took ~13 years, and this is unfortunately not uncommon.
My last year and a half looked like this: emergency surgery to try to save my left kidney - living with a painful kidney stent for months with no improvements - quitting my job to focus on my health - having 7 hour surgery - staying in the hospital for a week - healing for months and months - being able to travel and being active again - my sister has endometriosis surgery in London - getting a job again.
To put things into perspective, this is my second endometriosis surgery. The previous year I had my first surgery in Denmark, and they didn’t have the knowledge to see how bad my condition was. They told me I didn’t even have endometriosis. So it was left there to evolve and ultimately making things worse.
Today I feel so much better and extremely lucky and thankful to have been able to receive the expert treatment from such an amazing team of specialists at @cemiglondon@shaheenkhazali
I really hope women’s health will be taken more seriously in the future 💛🎗️
