Lark is a container. It is not the main hall. It is the next room, ear to the door. As my friend and mentor Lora-Faye said once: “it’s like watching an entire movie in close-up.” A lark is a bird that lives in the ground, but sings its bravest song — in the morning, in flight.
What started with me struggling to communicate or understand what even I wanted my music to be, dozens of visits to the East Village messing around both on a shure mic and on a fire escape, became the decision to tackle this project on my own. Creating a makeshift studio in my apartment and a self-produced record.
My goal in creating Lark was to uncover palettes within my world of sound. Lark holds many sleepless nights of building up and tearing apart harmonies, sudden giggle fits, and discovering that rice in a shot glass is more closely akin to jingle bells. It holds experiences close to my heart, memories I won’t soon forget, and the realization that being alone is the fullest way to finding company.

APRIL 17+18 - QUEENS

This April 17+18, Doaa, Mikayla and I have decided to finally tackle our first, long-discussed NY group-debut: a live concert/theatrical event entitled LARK. This project had its first life in the basement of 217 Park at the Cab last year as Doaa’s thesis project. Now a year later, we are taking our next leap, featuring 14 original songs and an expanded immersive production, a landscape of sound and image.
In order to ensure equitable artist pay for all musicians/designers/technicians involved, to support the filming, and to cover the rental space costs, we are raising funds that make this multi-disciplinary experience possible.
