More new work for @lonelyplanet kids (plus some outtakes I loved!) featuring @kitxune ’s two kiddos. We road-tripped to Enciso, Spain to experience La ruta de los dinosaurios firsthand, one of the many destinations from their new book Where To Go When With Kids. It was a blast. Thank you @kitxune for letting me spend the day with your lovely family (and for driving!) and photo director @pia_peterson šŸ¦–šŸ«¶

Wow. My photo of Nilda Palacios was included as one of @guardian_us ’s best photos of 2024. Thank you Gail Fletcher and ThalĆa Juarez for choosing to include this image on the list, thank you to ThalĆa for commissioning me for this important story, and to Nilda for her openness about her story, willingness while having her portrait taken, and for having me in her home. I wasn’t expecting to get this email, and it feels nice to receive this kind of unexpected recognition. Being a freelance photographer isn’t easy, and balancing new motherhood with a freelance photography career is harder (lol). The day of this assignment, my husband @ivaninovuelven held down the fort with a 7-month-year-old Rio, and for other assignments my sister @amandavivarevalo did too. A lot of family and friends have supported me (while I’m at it) so thank you if that’s you. It’s sometimes hard for me to celebrate the small wins but this feels like one. This was my first assignment for @guardian_us and the first time I can remember that an editor encouraged me to make portraits on film. I ended up bringing three cameras to be safe, including a digital. I’m very happy this one on 120 film was the hero image. I didn’t even pick up a medium format camera until 3 years ago when I set a goal to try it during an accountability photography workshop, and then @arizzza let me borrow hers. I also have to shout out @diversifyphoto , which is how Thalia (a fellow member) found me. Scans by @underdogfilmlab .

This is my favorite image from my time at @cosita.creative studio last week. Moody lighting, gradient, sunset colors - what do you think? ā£ļø It was refreshing to make some new images just for fun Photography & styling: @a.j.a Surfaces, props, and studio: @cosita.creative

New beauty still life for @elpaissemanal in print yesterday. Bright pink mascara, anyone? A fun brief : capture these products in a movida madrileƱa 80s aesthetic. While I was working on it, the piece had another working title, but this one is perfect! Slide 3 BTS: the non-exact science of taping gels on top of each other and then removing the gels to compare Slide 4 BTS: using the smoke machine (didn’t end up making the cut for this image) with Ivan in the background helping me to make the magic happen Written by Lucia Heredero Thank you Gorka for the call šŸ™ Assist and 80s art direction support Ivan Miguel šŸ’Ø

This is my third year taking photos of Rio with cherry blossoms (he’s not even 3 yet but the math works out). Last week, I noticed that the trees were blooming and knew I had to act quickly, and thankfully I did because they’re already gone. These are outtakes (I’m saving the smiley ones for the family album) but I’m so happy that I’ve somehow managed to get these photos every year. I hope to continue doing it for as long as possible. Looking at his face year after year under a blooming tree is so sweet. I love capturing this fleeting moment ā£ļø

New work for @elpaissemanal out in print today! For this Father’s Day still life about skincare for new dads, I knew almost immediately that I wanted to have some objects balancing or stacked on top of each other, and that I wanted kids’ things to be intertwining with dad’s things. And coffee. Just a few things that came to mind about life for first time dads (and I should know as I live with one!). I had so many ideas for props to represent both dad and little one, but less was more for this one. Fun fact: I used Rio’s real toys for this, plus one of his friends’ toys and a friendship bracelet his other friend made for me with her mom. I did get a few new blocks and when he saw them he asked if Santa had come. Also my husband agreed to be my assistant for the shoot, and as a first-time toddler dad made it even more full circle. Thank you to Gorka for the call Thanks to Ivan for assisting me Written by Lorena Robledo

My first assignment for @elpaissemanal out in print today! A beauty still life for Father’s Day (which is this week in Spain) about skincare products for first time dads, right up my alley! Slide 4 is Rio pointing out all his toys that made it to the final image ā£ļøšŸŖ€

Portraits of Laura last year 🌸 Since becoming a mom myself and going through pregnancy and childbirth (note: not that that’s the only way to become a parent), I’ve been drawn to photographing people going through the same transition. I’m drawn not only capturing an important moment in time within that balance, but also personally feel in awe of matrescence, the passing of time, and all the new and unknown it brings. Thank you Laura for the time and energy ā£ļø

MuchĆsimas gracias @lomographyspain for this interview for your online magazine, and thanks to Ludovica for the thoughtful questions about sharing this analog photo experience with my little one, how I got started with photography (long before making it my career), and more. The ā€œSimple Useā€ is a reusable disposable camera, so that’s a handy one to have at home for trips like this one. Link in bio or swipe through to read most of it ā£ļø
