We’re putting something together. 🖤
BLACK SOUNDTRACK hits Public Works Art Center on June 26 and we need the poets, the DJs, the musicians. The ones who make the room feel something.
If that’s you, reach out. This one’s for us.
#GODBODY
Please meet Ty Davis (@_ty.davis ), one of our featured artists for the Crowned by the Roots exhibition! We are blessed to have him and his work as a part of this exhibition and experience.
Ty Davis is a conceptual abstract artist whose work repositions culturally familiar imagery through abstraction and material intervention. His practice centers restraint, surface, and disruption as tools for examining Black identity, memory, and visual conditioning.
Ty titled the piece relax because it refers to a chemical process while acting as a command. It is a directive Black women hear far too often. It is rarely neutral since it is ultimately about control. Growing up, Black hair care ads were everywhere. They did more than sell products. They gave instructions on how to look and how to be seen.
Come check out Skrilla during the Artist Talks! We look forward to hearing her perspective around her intentions and process.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the final programmed event. We look forward to seeing you there!
