@esse.kaye and I became friends about 4 hours after we met (they were doing box office for a show I was acting in and we got to knowing each other at the after party.) Once we realized we were both part of the DMC we decided to do a Motherless Mother’s Day Brunch and continue it every year. Some years it’s been a bag of laughs, some a bag of tears, but we’re each grateful to feel whatever we feel together. Although this day is hard, it’s made easier knowing we’re not alone and can make the best of a dearth situation. There’s a million reasons why Esse and I are friends, but having someone close to you who understands the nuances of being motherless is invaluable.
I know this picture is already on my feed, but it’s worth another square. I never really know how I feel on Mother’s Day until it’s here. This year, I really miss my mom. She was funny, kind, compassionate and understood me completely. Whenever I had a bad day she would buy me a pickle from the deli counter and would tell me it be okay. She did her best to give me good days and I’m so grateful for it. IHappy Mother’s Day, J.
April wasn’t so bad despite the leaky wall, lol. I got Ozzy snuggles, was front of house for Sketchfest Presents, saw a dope pinball machine, celebrated spring with Flavors on the Ave, and had a fun outing with the new roomie.
Happy birthday to my wife, my love, my creative queen @hazel.designs.28 . She has seen the best and worst of me and stood by it all. Julia is one of my favorite humans and I am honored to call her my best friend. She is my lifeline to the creative; we walk hand in hand through the chaos and laugh through it all. She makes a mean steak, chicken Kiev, and a helluva a Caesar. She’s my favorite Canadian and favorite artist. Happy birthday darling.
