Electronic music has always moved fast, but female representation in the scene remains limited. Less than 5% of producers and engineers on major tracks are women, and female DJs still make up under a quarter of the industry. This imbalance has deep historical roots. From Maria Anna Nannerl Mozart—an early prodigy sidelined by her gender — to electronic music pioneers like Daphne Oram, Delia Derbyshire and Suzanne Ciani, has shown that women's contributions have often been overlooked. That imbalance continues today. When we launched our spring takeover, applications and winners were male dominated - a reminder of the structural barriers still in place and the urgent need to create more space and visibility for women in the scene. To help change that narrative, Electric is launching its first-ever Female Takeover Week, taking place from 13th to 18th October. The event will showcase some of the most exciting female artists in electronic music today such as Toriah, K.A.D, EADZO, Toni, Samantha Neal, Beccs Vernon, Kaci Lea Lynch, Lucia Cors, Amelia Preston, Caoimhe & more still to come. We'd love for you to join us! We are opening up space for new and undiscovered talent. Female DJs can apply to be part of the line-up by submitting a 1-hour mix by 1st October. Entry is now open via the link in our bio ⭐ Entry Requirements – Female Takeover Week ⭐ ⭐ Step 1: Click the link in our bio and select "Female Takeover Week" ⭐ Step 2: Click "Apply Now" ⭐ Step 3: Fill out your details and select "Female Takeover Week" for the application type ⭐ Step 4: Submit a 1-hour mix by 1st October Event Dates: Female Takeover Week 13th – 18th October Let’s hear what you’ve got! 🔥 📱Read more on the Electric app. Words: Eileen / Images: SisterswithTransistors/SamDivine/CharlotteDeWitte #femaledjs #electronicmusic #womenindance #femaletakeover

A new feature from Pioneer DJ has highlighted how DJs can build stronger online audiences by prioritising consistency, personality and community-driven content across social media platforms. The article brings together advice from industry social media specialists on what DJs should be posting in 2026 as competition for visibility continues to grow. The feature outlines how short-form video remains one of the most effective tools for audience growth, with DJs encouraged to post performance clips, studio sessions, crowd reactions and behind-the-scenes footage regularly. Experts also emphasise the importance of authenticity, suggesting that audiences now engage more with relatable content than highly polished promotional material. Among the key recommendations are maintaining a consistent posting schedule, adapting content for different platforms and showing more personality away from the booth. DJs are also advised to use storytelling to strengthen audience connection, while balancing music-focused uploads with personal insights and day-to-day creative processes. The full guide forms part of Pioneer DJ’s ongoing DJ Career Guide series, which explores professional development, branding and marketing strategies for emerging and established artists navigating the modern electronic music landscape. 📱Discover more on the Electric app. Words: Steve John / Imagery: Pioneer Blog

Boomtown’s HYDRO stage will return for the 2026 edition as an expanded hydrogen-powered arena, now renamed HYDRO XL. The stage’s capacity has increased from 8,000 to 20,000, marking a 150% expansion, and will be relocated to the Downtown area, taking over the former site of the Origin Stage. The stage is fully powered on green hydrogen using fuel cell technology, delivering emission-free energy while maintaining full-scale festival production. Originally introduced in a smaller format, the concept has now been redeveloped as one of the festival’s primary stages. The HYDRO XL line-up includes Skrillex, Brutalismus 3000, Faster Horses, DJ EZ, SHERELLE, Azyr, VTSS, NOTION and Marlon Hoffstadt. A number of back-to-back sets are also scheduled across the weekend, including Eats Everything b2b TSHA, KILIMANJARO b2b Oppidan, Rossi. b2b Silva Bumpa, and Ross From Friends b2b Effy. Four Tet and Floating Points are set to perform a special live set. The stage’s hydrogen system produces water vapour as its only by-product, replacing the need for diesel generators typically used in large-scale festival environments. The upgrade follows its initial debut, where the technology was tested in a smaller setting before being scaled up for 2026. Boomtown’s 17th edition will take place from August 12–16 and is currently sold out, with resale options available. 📱Discover more on the Electric app. Words: Steve John / Imagery: Lucas Sinclair

Armin van Buuren and Adam Beyer delivered a two-hour back-to-back set at Coachella’s Yuma tent on Saturday, April 18, running from 11pm to 12:55am. Across 34 tracks, the pair combined trance and techno on one of the festival’s key underground stages. For Weekend 2, Yuma replaced the Sonora tent in the festival layout. The set drew from both artists’ distinct styles. Armin van Buuren focused on melodic and euphoric selections, while Adam Beyer leaned into Drumcode releases and contemporary techno. The format played out as a continuous exchange rather than a structured handover. The Yuma tent was filled throughout, reflecting its role as a dedicated space for house and techno at the festival. The performance also marked a notable large-scale crossover between trance and techno in a back-to-back format. Armin van Buuren has shifted toward harder sounds in 2026, including his collaboration with ARGY, ‘Like A Child’. Adam Beyer has continued a run of high-profile b2bs, with recent appearances alongside Maceo Plex, Cristoph and Enrico Sangiuliano. Several unreleased tracks were introduced during the set. The full tracklist has been published on 1001tracklists. The selection moved between melodic techno, trance-influenced edits and established anthem callbacks. Coachella Weekend 2 concluded on Sunday, April 19, with Yuma’s programming noted as a key part of the weekend. 📱Discover more on the Electric app. Words: Conor Caughey / Imagery: Courtesy of ASOT / EDMTunes

Even as club culture faces ongoing pressure, The Nightlife shows its foundations remain active. Honey Dijon builds on a house tradition shaped by DJs like Frankie Knuckles, focusing on vocal-led tracks rooted in Black and underground dance music. The album keeps a clear structure, with Dijon producing while a wide range of collaborators take the spotlight. The record features a mix of established and emerging artists. Chloë appears on the title track, while Jacob Lusk brings a soulful tone to “Satisfied.” Bree Runway drives the energy of “Slight Werk” with a direct, rhythmic delivery. Tracks like “Welcome To The Moon,” with Cor.Ece and Dave Giles II, lean into late-night club textures. Musically, the album stays close to four-on-the-floor rhythms, combining melodic hooks with more minimal, club-focused production. Songs such as “Just Friends” and “Okay Daddy” use multiple vocalists to build layered, collaborative structures. The approach reflects a DJ-led format shaped by years in club spaces. Across the lyrics, themes tend to avoid traditional romance. Instead, tracks focus on distance, independence, or self-definition. This runs through performances from artists like Mette and Mahalia, keeping the tone consistent across the record. The Nightlife highlights Honey Dijon’s production style while drawing on a wide network of voices. The album connects past and present club sounds, presenting a collection built for shared spaces as well as individual listening. 📱Discover more on the Electric app. Words: James John / Imagery: Honey Dijon / SOS
