I figured it was time to step in front of the camera for once and reintroduce myself properly 👋
My background’s in food and hospitality, but I’ve always had a love for telling stories through a lens. What started as a passion became Studio Mon — and three years in, it’s been the best journey of my life 🎥
I’ve met some incredible people, made lifelong friends, and had the chance to work on projects that really mean something.

I’ve spent the last few years making work that moves fast. Quick turnarounds, short form content, optimised for the scroll. And I enjoy it. But somewhere along the way I started to miss the feeling of just sitting with something.
FORM is my answer to that.
It’s a short film about a ceramicist. The repetition, the patience, the small decisions that go into making something by hand. Just the sounds of the process, the music.
It’s also 16:9 Widescreen. Horizontal. Because not everything needs to be vertical.
We’re all moving fast right now. Phones out, thumbs scrolling, half watching everything and fully watching nothing. I’m as guilty of it as anyone.
So this is me asking you to stop for five minutes. Put it on full screen. Let it be slow.
FORM is the first in People Round Here, an ongoing series of short films I’m making in between client work, shining a spotlight on the people and makers of Margate. More to come.

Shot on my father in law's @studio.ellardjohnstone16mm Bolex H16. This was my first time shooting on film, and honestly, nothing has quite felt like it since. Every frame considered, lighting checked and checked again. No fixing it in post. manual focus throughout, Checked and checked again!
The subject: my mother in law @juliaellenlancaster_ceramics and her ceramic sculpture, shot just before it went up @clink_street_ceramics in London Bridge. And behind the lens for BTS duties, my lovely wife Esther. @esh_ellard

For anyone new here, I started Studio Mon four years ago. Somehow, a hobby turned into my full time job, and somehow work has kept coming in. I don’t take that for granted for a second.
At Studio Mon, we create polished documentary style photo and video content. From launch campaigns and product focused projects, to founder stories and good old fun social media bits, we’re here for all of it!
I’m incredibly grateful to every brand, client and creative I’ve worked with along the way, none of this happens alone.
There’s a lot coming up. We’re moving into a studio space in Margate, which opens up some exciting new opportunities. Alongside that, we’re launching a fresh website, an online print shop, the first ever Studio Mon video LUT, quarterly newsletters, and I’m making a real effort to get in front of the camera more and share what actually happens behind the scenes.

Our time in the Scottish Highlands is soon coming to an end as we drive down to Glasgow and then Peak District for new years. This was by far my favourite day in this trip so far, Ben Nevis, you are bloody beautiful.
Out of all the cameras I brought on this trip, the @djiglobal Mini 5 Pro has been unbelievable!
