I think about how transient jobs are, social media, even this post, it can feel dead as soon as you hit the publish button. It’s essentially a journal entry I’m firing off your way, never knowing who reads it or not. The tracking! The metrics! I’ve seen artists get addicted to this. So much consumption is chartable and trackable, but what about the interactions that we have with “content” that can not be metrically accounted for? I think of all the magazine articles I’ve read in my attempt to be on the internet less, all the writers who have made some impression on me, whom I will never know, admittedly, most whose names were a byline I skimmed on the way to their story. In this day and age, it’s crazy to think that anything you make will have even the slightest impression on someone because there is just so much to see, too much to see, but we are impressionable, we take so much in.
I can’t say that trying to read magazines instead of social media in the morning has made me less overwhelmed. Now I feel an urgency to finish one of my magazines before the next one arrives. I can say that it’s helped with my attention span, and I want to believe that it is helping me become a better writer, musician, and artist engaging with long-form content I’m actually interested in instead of random videos (which I have no desire to make) or those little carousel posts with all the text (also not a medium I enjoy making.) These tech apps and the jobs I’ve taken have led me to believe that no one reads, but I love long-form writing over anything else, love books for the fact that they don’t have any fucking ads in them, and most of my friends are trying to ween themselves off social as much as they can to get their attention back.

Growing up, I played sports because they were free or low-cost, less expensive than music.
I always feel like I'm playing catch-up (that's how this website is designed, right?), learning what many of my peers learned at a young age, now at 30, almost 31, but it's with great pride to whole-heartedly pursue my favorite sport—MUSIC!
I remind myself every day that I'm not too old, that you're never too old, to learn something new, to pursue a passion project, to take risks, and give yourself the space to follow a calling.
Star Card's last show for a while will be at Hart Bar on April 11, on my birthday. It would mean the world to see you there.
We're playing with a slew of cool bands, curated by @friendshipquestbooking (Show starts at 7 PM, we play at 8:15 PM, and tickets are $15 at the door)
Star Card, the bedroom-born and NYC bar-blossomed rock band, formed initially from frontperson Calley’s undeniable drive for creative revelation. But as the project has found its footing, and cemented a sound with the release of their debut album Trash World, it has expanded and toiled beyond the confines of Calley’s home recordings– carving out a lane as a deeply singular voice within New York’s bustling DIY scene.
