i watched wong kar-wai's "in the mood for love" about a year ago per recommendation of
@rfarrands because i had just freshly written "in the red" and was elbow deep in the red theme for the album. preproduction was about 75% done on the album at this point and all i knew of the visual world to accompany it was that it was red as hell.
this film struck me, it was heavily on my mind, and about a month later i was eating steak frites alone at my favorite restaurant and i had the idea to recreate scenes from the movie for the album cover art, and i needed it on film.
@derekddelahunt immediately came to mind and i pitched him my idea. thank god he was into it and we soon got started with ideas and locations.
this process taught me so much about set design, prop sourcing, and world building and i am so grateful he took on this challenge with me. we shot 3 of 4 scenes in one long, hot, heavy day and completed the final scene a few weeks later (once i had locked in the perfect wallpaper). it was my first time creating a set like that and i loved poring over the details. it is such a joy to obsess over art you're making.
thank you thank you thank you, Derek.
other special thanks to
@misslorrainediner and
@newly_relevant_artist for providing locations for us to shoot the diner and smoked out office scene.
if you want to see these photos blown up in 12"x12" you can preorder the vinyl on bandcamp (includes digital download of the album, link in bio) or they'll be available on a merch table near you very soon.
