📣Hit play on the Odyssey today📣
Hohners Odyssey is a series of moods and compositions inspired by the stories featured in Homers Odyssey. The 22 tracks follow the key plot points of the story in the order which they take place.
In the process of creating this album we referenced three different translations of The Odyssey; “The Odyssey Of Homer,” by Richard Lattimore, “The Iliad & The Odyssey”, by Samuel Butler and “The Odyssey” by Emily Wilson. Wilson’s translation brings to light the overlooked aspects of ruthless hierarchy, slavery and women’s role in the epic. As a story that was passed on through word of mouth for many years, it’s interesting to engage with different translations which offer the creative and socio-political perspectives of the writers themselves, and the times in which they were writing.
We had decided early on that this would be a keyboard and synthesizer based album as the demo’s were written on a Hohner Pianet and Hohner Symphonic Organ -hence the name of the album. Musically we were taking inspiration from Bruce Haack, Bo Hansson, and Terry Riley.
The album was recorded over two weekends on two reels of tape using a Tascam 38 reel to reel. We loaded the @_soundept with all of our keyboards and echo units including:
