TRACES is finally out. After Rima, Masrahiya, and Greater Than One, TRACES feels like another step deeper into who we are. A record following our personal traces. An album shaped by memory, migration, longing, heritage, and everything that left a mark on us. Questioning how we got here, and asking where we want to go next. More than anything, this album feels like one whole piece. The songs belong to each other. From beginning to end, it tells one story. In making it, we kept reconnecting to our shared traces, shared stories, and shared pain, but also to the traces other people left in us. In many ways, this album holds the time before we met, when we met, and everything that came after. And everyone reading this is part of this album too. This song is about those moments when the heart feels heavy, and you turn to someone close to ask for advice, for comfort, for perspective. We dedicate this song to all the people being bombed and killed in Lebanon in the last days, you have been these close people to us, we were always able to turn to. They need our voices more than ever before! We sending our thoughts to everyone and hope this piece of music can give you comfort someday. For a decade, Shkoon (@_shkoon ) have occupied a rare space in electronic music - one where Arabic musical heritage and European club culture meet without either dissolving into the other. On Traces, their debut full-length, they keep that hybridity but push beyond it: turning inward to face the aftermath of the turmoil that has always quietly shaped their work. Migration, exile, revolutionary memory, sectarian massacres on the Syrian coast - it’s all here, and none of it resolves neatly.
