Kokumo aims to celebrate and preserve endangered indigenous writing systems by creating a variable font that demonstrates how they can evolve with contemporary typographic features. The thesis focuses on the Adlam and Tifinagh (+ Latin) systems, with the goal of supporting often overlooked linguistic cultures. Distributed through a web platform and editorial volumes, Kokumo, meaning “This one has stopped dying” in Yoruba, represents the resilience of ethno-linguistic communities.
