We welcome a true hero and originator of the Balearic / dance music scene to Margate Soul Weekender and The Balearic Boutique : Trevor Fung
Trevor Fung’s legacy is as the foundational architect of the UK’s acid house and Balearic beat explosion. Often described as an “unsung hero,” Fung was instrumental in shaping the eclectic sound of Ibiza in the early 1980s, holding a residency at Amnesia as early as 1983, predating many of the scene’s better-known figures. His most pivotal contribution was instigating the legendary 1987 Ibiza trip for Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling, and Nicky Holloway, an event that directly led to the birth of seminal UK clubs like Shoom and Spectrum. Beyond his role as a catalyst, Fung helped codify the “Balearic” genre itself, even compiling the influential Balearic Beats Vol 1 album. From headlining massive M25 orbital raves like Sunrise and Energy to his ongoing work as an ambassador for charities like Last night a DJ saved my life. Fung remains a respected pioneer whose open-minded selector style continues to influence global club culture decades later.
