🌿 Spring Poetry for all 🌿
‘Nothing is so beautiful as spring’, said Gerard Manley Hopkins.
And who could disagree?
Come and join Raw Writing tutor Malcolm Hebron for a celebration of spring in the words of Hopkins and his fellow poets, from medieval times to today.
Saturday 18th April 2026
2:00 pm - 3:30 pm at Exeter Phoenix
There will be daffodils, trees coming into leaf, April’s sweet showers, melting snow, lambs, at least one serpent, and reflections on the meaning of Easter, too. 🌼🌱🐣🐍
We look forward to your company for this latest reading of seasonal poems by Malcolm Hebron. A spring clean for the mind!
We are offering a ‘pay what you can afford’ option for this event, with tickets at £6.00, £8.00 or £10.00. Book under ‘Live Events’ on our website.

Raw Writing is excited to be running this new Introduction to Shakespeare course.
Our course tutor will be @hebronmalcolm , who holds a doctorate of Medieval Studies from Oxford University, and has many years experience teaching Shakespeare at Winchester College.
This course is for anyone with an interest in Shakespeare - whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience. Malcolm will be helping you explore Shakespeare through written word and performance, looking at technique and relevance to today’s world in more detail.
This is an eight-week course, starting on Wednesday 6th May from 10.30 am - 12.00 pm at Exeter
Phoenix.
The cost for this course is £285.00 with an option to pay in three instalments.
❓Are you interested in joining a Raw Writing course? Would you like to meet the tutors first and ask any questions?
Our experienced tutors would love to talk to you about our course content and what to expect from our classes. They will be in the Exeter Phoenix Cafe Bar from 10.00am - 12.30pm on Tuesday 24th March and they’re looking forward to meeting you! Just drop in at any time, have a coffee and say hello 👋
We have three new courses starting in May:
📖Introduction to the Novel with Adam Shackleton
📖Introduction to Memoir with Carla Jenkins
📖Introduction to Shakespeare with Malcolm Hebron
You've heard of the Silent Book Club, where people read together in silence... now welcome to the Silent Writing Club!
Carla Jenkins, founder of Raw Writing, realised that what writers need is to carve out time within their day to write - to make an appointment to write, just like you need to make time to walk the dog, go to the gym, or spend time with a friend.
The Silent Writing Club takes place in The Workshop at Exeter Phoenix, Bradninch Place, Gandy Street, Exeter, EX4 3LS
Silent Writing 12.30 - 1.30pm, coffee or whatever else you fancy in the cafe bar from 1.30-2.30pm
Anyone is welcome to come along and write in silence for an hour with us. It's free and you don't need to book, but we do operate on a first come, first served basis - if places are full when you arrive, we invite you to write in the cafe downstairs and we will join you afterwards.
You are welcome to join us for a coffee and a catch up after our hour's writing - in fact, even if you don't fancy doing the writing, you're welcome to join us for the social afterwards (we will be in the cafe bar from 1.30pm).
