True story.
I've worked with a few startups over the years that proposed equity as payment and honestly? At first I thought it was kind of exciting. Like yes, I'm building something, I'm an investor now 😂
Then I remembered… my landlord doesn't accept shares.
The vision was big. The runway was short. The equity was a failure most of the time, because approximately 90% of startups fail within five years globally. Yet I was out here doing full creative strategy for a percentage of a company that hadn't made a single naira 🤦🏽♂️
Lesson learned. I love startups, genuinely. But love doesn't pay invoices, and equity isn't a retainer. Charge your worth!
