Call for Applicants! For the 2023 pressedplay DJ Program (Intermediate) 💿
A three-month educational program open to four QTPIBOC Toronto-based youth (19-29) who are susceptible to misogyny from within the music industry.
This program is meant for folks who are beginner DJs/bedroom DJs and have a foundational understanding of DJing and some experience using laptop controllers, and who are seeking to further improve their skills, especially regarding the use of industry standard equipment (CDJs & professional mixers).
Mentees will learn alongside program facilitators and local guest speakers including DJs, music producers and event curators.
Mentees will participate in:
✔️5 in-person workshops
✔️CDJ practice sessions at @estrelarsound
✔️ 2 online workshops on finances for artists and event production.
✔️A live set on @iso.radio
✔️Paid set at closing party

Saima is an editor, journalist, and community organizer who began moonlighting as DJ Durga while living in Saskatchewan. Her DJ practice comes from a curiosity about the sounds, ideas, and feelings that move us in sync. She plays a little of many genres – like hip hop, bollywood, dancehall, techno, reggaeton, jungle, pop, and experimental club music. You can find her in the club losing track of her friends when her glasses get fogged up.

Incognita (she/her) is a queer, Toronto-based DJ, Producer, Post-Sound Designer and lover of all things sonic.
Enamoured with global rhythms, moody melodies and industrial sounds, Incognita is dubbed an engineer for her playful, experimental approach to layering and looping sounds that inspire movement.
Incognita strives to create full-body sensory experiences with sound, while bringing genres like Amapiano, Afrohouse, Gqom and Dancehall to the forefront.

NO-MAD is a Black-Métis DJ, musician, and music collector. He started DJing in Vancouver, but currently lives and works in Toronto. His goal is to share the sounds that interest him, as well as showcase the vastness of the dance music scene. With much inspiration coming from his Caribbean heritage. Expect to hear a mix of underground club, electronic edits, reggae, jungle and dancehall.

Amánte is a Chinese-Panamanian creative based in Toronto. She identifies as non-binary, and her pronouns are she/they. Through her work, she aspires to give prominence to the roots of Reggaetón in Panamá and also the Chinese diaspora in Latin America and the Caribbean. Her eclectic mixes are characterized by genres such as Baltimore club, footwork, neoperreo, reggaetón, Panamanian dancehall and reggae, and baile funk.
