NoTeS fRoM tHe EnSeMbLe: This Sunday, December 14th, I’m singing with Belly Chorus, a project led by the inimitable @minivansoundsystem . This is a singing cult and you’ll regret it if you don’t come bask in our angelic voices. Enya, anyone? Tickets at link in bio. You should probably join us for next season — the Kool-Aid is delish. Also this Sunday, I’m going to be selling some prints and things in Red Hook, at @smallchangemarket , a delightful annual event that raises funds for mutual aid efforts and also supports artists like your boy! If you know what’s good, you’ll come through! File under essential holiday time experiences that warm the cockles of your big fat heart. Also, In November, I went on tour with @ramshackleenterprises , to do Nature Drag with folks in Maine! I taught the audience a round about compost, Eli shared their wild magic, and @dee_dee_sea and Diane made some glorious sounds throughout the whole thing. Lastly, in October, along with our amazing cohort, I showed some old and new work at @lmcc_nyc ’s Arts Center Residency Open Studios. Pics of me by the one and only @popularandsuccessful Find the best weirdos and do things together!

Oops! Here I was doing summer; I neglected this digital space! So here I am now, just in case you’ve forgotten my face! The first and last pics find me at the beach with some gays! And the second is from the Schweinfurth in Auburn, where I showed with some baes! The third is a drawing I made for a gallery in that fine place! I recreated a fraught object from history, as is sometimes the case — A coverlet by incarcerated weavers at Auburn’s famed prison in 1838! The fourth’s a performance where words, grief, objects, and memory conflate. The fifth’s in a garden, where we did some gay printmaking for Pride! Photos 6 through 10 are from Moth Ball in Athens (make sure to check out that ride)! 11’s from the Drag March, a Pride tradition I love to the core! And 12 is from Privy Privy! Who wants ice cream! Please give us some more! 13’s from the ferry to Governors Island; my beloved LMCC studio is nigh! 14’s from Stone Quarry, because golly! *Big sigh* Oh! We also did Moth Ball in Ithaca, at the Soil Factory, of course! That’s photos 15 and 16 — love to Ash! What a force! 17 through 19 are from Fresh Ground Pepper’s residency in PA! Where I made things and slept in an old horse stall, neigh neigh! I’m grateful for this summer, especially in times bleak as these! This world is so cruel so GIVE YOUR FRIENDS A BIG SQUEEZE! Pics 1 and 20: @popularandsuccessful Pic 3: Thanks @s.lammer , Lizzie, @polinabertou , and @jessililili for drawing assistance!

In its first Ithaca presentation MOTHBALL at The Soil Factory was just a taste, but still, so fun. Patrick and I introduced the event. A performance by wunderkind Ursula Torop enchanted folks with a song she learned for the clarinet titled ‘Chrysalis’ which she selected for the occasion (note her wings in the picture). I put up two mothing stations: one inside the Marshy Garden, the other on the edge of the lawn near the trees lining the creek to lure organisms from different habitats. Early arrivals included many leafhoppers, a slim waisted wasp mimic fly, a honey bee past its bedtime, water beetles, mayflies, stoneflies, caddisflies and more. Mothing is a late night activity and just as the sheets started to buzz, and Brandon was mid-tour, highlighting features of our garden with a spotlight, the sky opened up and the electronics needed to be pulled. Sad! However, it was a hot 10-15 minute preview of what promised to be great mothing. Friends grabbed the food and drinks, power cords, batteries and lights and the party moved inside. Later on I went walking in the garden with Rachel and we saw a dazzling display of moths pollinating the Bee Balm flowers in rain. We talk about moths being important (essential!) pollinators but it was a gift to see the activity at almost daytime bee levels! @soilfactory_air @_patrickcostello @busybeebrandon @marshygarden_bzzzzz

We are pleased to announce a trio of solo exhibitions by artists Ellery Bryan, Patrick Costello, and Patrick McGuan in collaboration with @stonequarryartpark and @schweinfurthart This collaboration grew out of our organizations’ shared commitment to broadening public access to the arts and increasing opportunities for artists in our region and from around the world. Each of these exhibiting artists has recently made work with and amidst Stone Quarry’s 140-acre grounds.   🌱 Ellery Bryan (@magic.h0ur ) is currently developing Fossil Memory, a film that traces history and memory through geology and astrometry. 🌱 Patrick Costello’s (@_patrickcostello ) large-scale drawing and site-specific performance, After Flowers, takes inspiration from a Jacquard woven coverlet, produced in 1838 by the incarcerated weavers at Auburn State Prison. 🌱 Patrick McGuan’s new work, Songs from the Sky, employs a meadow, text, and multimedia sculpture to explore the contradictions in how we create meaning. Through this collaborative partnership, the Schweinfurth invites these three artists, whose diverse aesthetic approaches share a common vein of intellectual inquiry with respect to the ways art, landscape, and natures both wild and cultivated interact, to extend their landscape-driven explorations into the gallery setting. 🪴 Saturday, May 31 🪴 3-4 PM: Panel discussion featuring the artists and two ecologists 🪴 4 PM: site-specific performance by Patrick Costello 🪴 4-6 PM: Opening reception of exhibitions 📍 Schweinfurth Art Center, 205 Genesee St, Auburn, NY

✨I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been selected for LMCC’s 2025 Arts Center Residency. For the next 8 months, I’ll be working at @LMCC_NYC ’s Arts Center at Governors Island alongside a cohort of 18 other artists/collaboratives. 🌿LMCC’s 2025 Arts Center Residency offers NYC-based multidisciplinary artists a long-term space for experimentation, development, and dialogue with fellow residents. Based on Governors Island, the residency supports artists whose practices explore climate justice, the environment, sustainability, and urban ecology. The kind of social network I actually like being a part of is one that involves people making weird things, growing plants, and talking to one another in the physical world. A web of links between blue skies, tweeting birds, tangled reels of garden twine, and true freaks (com)posting wild visions of the future — sharing glimpses of a world we’re actively cultivating. So it was really inspiring (and deeply grounding) to talk on a panel about art and horticulture at this year’s Plant-o-Rama with the brilliant @jean.shin and @lily_kwong ! Thanks to @sciparis for moderating, @brooklynbotanic for hosting, and @metrohortnyc for making such a fecund and heartening event happen every year. I’m so stoked I get to be a part of the NYC horticulture community — let’s hear it for the plant nerds!
