BROWN AND NOT AFRAID According to the LA times, "The Supreme Court ruled Monday for the Trump administration and agreed U.S. immigration agents may stop and detain anyone they suspect is in the U.S. illegally based on little more than working at a car wash, speaking Spanish or having brown skin." In the 20s if a Brown child was caught speaking Spanish in school, they were beat. During WW2 the American Government implemented "Operation Wetback" to remove Mexican immigrants who had came to the US to pick crops. To further beat down on the Brown man, those who were born here had Laws against them. In Los Angeles the zoot suit was illegal to wear until 2023. In the 1950s, Mexican Lowriders had to have a bumper clearance of a cigarette pack. In the 1970s onwards, racial profiling through the means of "alleviating gang problems", further plagued the Brown Community. In 2025 A BROWN MAN CAN BE STOPPED AND DETAINED FOR SPEAKING SPANISH, WORKING AT A CAR WASH, AND BY SIMPLYING BEING BROWN SKIN TONED. Can you really fathom this. This is not against "illegal immigration". This is against the Brown Community and is a fear mongering tactic to keep us afraid. Throughout all the years the colonizers hated us, we have prevailed. We have become the roses in the cracks of the concrete. Our resilience has never stop NOR WILL IT EVER BE STOPPED. We must unite as a people and stand against this blatant racism. This hatred and fear will not prevail, BROWN COMMUNITIES WILL PREVAIL. BROWN AND PROUD #CHICANO #RINCON #PACHUCO

Embracing my Indigeneity has been a journey for me. My great-grandmother, Juliana Lucero, was born on Mescalero Apache land near where the Saint Joseph Apache Mission now stands. She was married off to my great-grandfather at the age of 13, while he was 21. Her mother told her to forget her Indigeneity as a means of survival, and this mindset was passed down to my grandfather and then to my mother. My great-grandfather, Estaben Quintela, was Yaqui indian. He walked to New Mexico from his people’s land in what is now called Old Mexico. My grandmother rarely spoke of him because he was a troubled man who gambled and drank his life away. She wanted nothing to do with him or his Indigeneity. But my generation is the one that will break this cycle of passed-down trauma. We shall no longer let the colonizers infect our minds and hearts. We will learn to love ourselves and be proud of our ancestors. The first step to healing is to acknowledge the trauma that exists. We no longer have to hide ourselves—we must honor our ancestors and respect the Sacred. Shout out to @dante_biss_grayson for allowing me to be apart of his show. #RINCON #CHICANO #NATIVE Slide 7 is my Great grandmother Juliana with my grandpa, grandma, mom's cousins, mom, and her siblings Slide 9 is my great grandfather Estaben Pictures from the Runway are from @batzcave_ @gothhaus_la xo_4ngie Shirts and jacket by @skyeaglecollection

This one is for my Brown sisters. I created this art with you in mind. I thought of the Chicana women in my life, how they were so strong and graceful. They had to be tougher than than the men and yet managed to be so beautiful. Like a rose with its thorns, ready to protect itself from the world. You are appreciated. We must teach our youth better. Instead of glorifying spending 20 years in the state penitentiary, we gotta show them that knowledge will set them free. So that they can think for themselves and break the bondadges of colonialism. The way the prison systems are set up, it is made to target the Brown Community. Don't let the colonizers win. We must stay out of Prisons and we must stay BROWN AND PROUD. THIS IS OUR WORLD FOR THE TAKING RAZA #RINCON #PACHUCO ##CHICANO
