Had the absolute pleasure of directing for the first time last year. Some bts piccies from the set of ‘Dummy’ ✨Filmmaking is hard but also incredibly fun and rewarding when you’re surrounded by a cast and crew as talented and brilliant as this one!
I’m making a short film! 🎉🎉
Set during the pop-punk movement of the early 00s, DUMMY is a poignant and funny coming-of-age short film about Divya, a young Indian-Australian girl trying to find her place amongst the pale-faced punks of the scene.
As a filmmaker of Indian origin who grew up primarily in suburban Brisbane, I have always been drawn to the concept of chosen family, often finding comfort in stories about displaced individuals who forge connections and identities beyond what society prescribes for them. Dummy and Divya’s story emerged from my own reflections on identity, belonging, and authenticity during the pivotal age of adolescence - exploring the often misguided way we stretch, shape and remould ourselves in search of acceptance from others and ourselves.
This script has been my baby for some time and I am beyond excited to bring this wonderful project and vivid world to life. But our team needs your support!
We are raising funds through @ausculturalfund and would be forever grateful for any support. Donations over $2 through the Australian Cultural Fund are tax deductible!!!
This is an independent production supported by skilled, local filmmakers and an extremely talented and enthusiastic cast of young actors. All money raised during this fundraising campaign will go toward production costs.
