compound chrysalis // no feeling is final

I had the pleasure of an impromptu morning romp through the woods around my home with my friend Mariee the other day. Conversation that took place, along with other recent life events, have had me contemplating the importance of timing in all things: the experiences we cherish, the culture we gravitate towards and cultivate for ourselves, the people we are drawn to and tend to bond with - how much comes down to an assertion of will and knowledge of self, and how much of our proclivities have to do with the narrative trajectory inherent to each of our lives? Do we find connection as a result of the sum of our intentions and our experiences, or does ‘fate’ have more of a hand to play than we tend to allow for?
For that matter, I wonder whether the experiences we hold onto are nearly as informative as the space between those events, giving distinction to the occasion in which we find presence. Like with particularly resonant music or poetry, the moments that bear the most impact are often made so and informed by the span of time that divides those instances. Is the experience of connection a matter of the union itself, or is it closer to an eclipse - a moment in time that distills a feeling or a need and allows the ephemeral to crystallize and take shape, if only for a moment itself, with the knowledge that it’s existence is tenuous at best.
A phrase that keeps percolating up for me, equally sobering as it can be comforting, is “no feeling is final”. I feel deep gratitude for the connections I have made and continue to maintain in this moment in time, however fleeting they are or transient they may prove to be. I struggle with it, I presently find myself with more questions than reassurance, but I still find hope and potential in the providence that friendship provides.

Always good to share company and conversation with this one. Her bandwidth for cerebral engagement simultaneous to creative vulnerablity is profound as it is inspiring. An all around nourishing collaborative experience.

The last couple of months have been a whirlwind of internal adjustment and contextual acclimation. New home, fresh outlook. Serendipitous compound reflection captured while shooting on the homestead.

I've been resisting contribution on social media for awhile now, holding out for projects of substance and personalities that truly resonate. I recently had the privilege of photographing for my good friend Elena's jewelry company, these images being just a taste of our last shoot and what is yet to come. Do yourself a favor and scope out her wares @thesunshineprophecy !

digging through the archives
a photoshoot from wayyy back - held in a barren studio in San Francisco's Tenderloin district. shortly afterward, a withered old crone with a truly massive white rat on her shoulder wheeled over to us and took it upon herself to guide us out of the area...granted, it ended up being the exact opposite direction we needed to go in, but it's the thought that counts I suppose. Sometimes it takes an initial step back to make the leap forward.
