Meet the BEC Organizing Team: @_nicegold is an editor, publisher, educator and organizer publishing the gold standard of comics, artist books, and literary zines. He founded @pyritepress, an award-winning Brooklyn-based comics and zine micropress in 2015. Crimes, the Pyrite Press graphic novella with comics writer/illustrator @jukeboxcomix, won the MoCCA Award of Excellence in 2019. He has worked in mainstream comics publishing with over a decade of comics publishing experience, including Operations Manager for @readtinyonion, an independent production house for comics, Head of New Talent @dstlry_media, Head of Comics @kickstarter, Head of Content @comixology, overseeing the comiXology Originals line, and an educator @svaillocomx in New York. He lives and works in Brooklyn.

I am so fucking excited and proud to announce my involvement in the creation of a new Brooklyn Based Comics nonprofit. BODEGA, or the Brooklyn Organization Dedicated To The Endurance of the Graphic Arts. For the last few years @_nicegold, @asmallmenard and I have been working hard to bring this org to life, and I am thrilled to serve as Chair as we make our mark on this city I love so much. Our first venture is going to be the @bkexpocomics, and it’s going to fucking rule. This is only the beginning!!!

Brooklyn Expo of Comics (BEC) is a new 2-day comics festival that will take place November 14 + 15 in Williamsburg at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. @natandrewson, @daygloayhole, and @adamtots all agree that this will be Brooklyn’s best fest yet.Applications are now LIVE for BEC until Sunday, May 17! Here is some BTS footage from one of our first projects, producing the announcement video for @bkexpoofcomics. Writing gags, painting backdrops and creating props was a blast but the biggest thrill was making @_nicegold of @bodegacomix the star he was destined to be. Swing by the BEC Instagram to check out all of our hard work and follow them to stay up to date with your soon-to-be favorite comic fest in Brooklyn.
