new work for the city of Ventura, CA titled ALIODENDRON. I was approached to design a kinetic sculpture for the South Africa section of the Botanical Gardens. The location is up on the hill behind city hall with beautiful views overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I presented an idea/drawing of a sculpture based off an Aloe tree which are very present in the garden. The idea was to have the base with its organic shape subtly blend in to the surroundings but then the moving components hopefully catch your eye.

I am very honored to now be displaying my sculptures in Santa Fe, New Mexico with INTERFUSION ART. it was fun to create 3 different pieces for them. The gallery is located in the beautiful art district of canyon road.. It was a long journey creating in my shop, the patina process off site, cramming them into a tiny rental car, a wild dust stormy drive out there, set up at the gallery and then flew home! Thank you for the opportunity @interfusionart

new kinetic sculpture titled WICONI featured @hawthornegallery my dad has gone down many paths in his life and some of the ones that really helped him create the movement for his kinetic sculptures was being a math professor, a surfer and even period where he was building his own airplanes. All of those listed gave him an incredible understanding of the center of gravity. He has been able to push the limit of the moment of his sculptures beyond what many peers and predecessors achieved. I have been so fortunate because I have always felt the movement of the sculptures is beyond my brain capacity but I have really understood the design, the build and the finishing. Growing up running in and out of his shop my whole life I have had him there guiding me for decades now. This new piece is the first time I have felt like I was able to push the limits of his movement while staying inside the parameters needed for the sculpture to function as a kinetic. I was very ambitious to get the top moving component to come completely upside down and back under/through the base, to almost appear like it is levitating as it makes it’s accent. I am very fortunate to have had those countless years of being put to the test as my father’s under study in the shop, and I can still bounce crazy ideas off him to this day! Happy 80th birthday Pops 🧡

when I was a kid I always wanted to be a pro surfer, to some degree I achieved that goal through taking my own path. Then once I found my little niche in the surf world I just wanted to keep it going, it was always so hard knowing the right thing to do to achieve longevity in the surf industry. One of the things that has allowed me to stick around is my relationships with great companies, especially in this strange chapter of the surf industry we are in now. A couple years ago @globebrand started @fxdworkwear and they have been supporting me on my modified path I am on now with creating art and surfing. They made an ambassador film about a sculpture I created for @thepacificmotel please follow link in bio if you would like to watch ✨✨✨

back to the basics for this recent commission, it was fun to build a “skelton sculpture” again… river stones and mild steel.
