Picture this…
You’re in the mountains of Portugal, weaving magic and stories with the most extraordinary constellation of humans. Rainstorms, egg-and-spoon races, hikes to the dolmen, late nights singing around the fire… unprecedented amounts of laughter, meditation, dancing, yoga - your heart slowly, quietly cracking open.
And somewhere in all of that, a friendship begins to seed. With a woman called Nasreen.
There’s something about her… the way she walks with the land, listens to it, learns from it. She feels like someone who remembers - someone who is in deep attunement with the earth, its beauty, and all of humanity.
And then one night, under a vast full moon, she says, “I have a little song…” And she sings This Land.
We’re all just… in awe. We don’t stop singing it. Day after day it stays with us.
Months later, back on the land - planting, tending, gathering by the fire - she sings it again. And something in me just knows… this song has to be recorded. There is no way it can exist only in these moments.
And because we were in such good company, our friend and producer Mike jumped in with his brilliance and generosity, saying, “I’ll do it!” #legend
And within weeks, we’re in Devon, bringing it to life.
I feel deeply grateful to have sung backing vocals on this song - to be part of holding it, supporting it, and witnessing Nas share this piece of her magical heart.
