#OffMyChest cover art is here 😍💛☀️🎉💐🥳 Like i said last Saturday for my amazing Sunshiners who were at the #AlbumReading - The cover art is meant to be simple. I wanted something that captured the Vintage grain that Old Soul Records/Vinyls used to have. I wanted it to be a Cinematic Aesthetic because I picture a lot of these songs set in Movies and Films, as that is my ultimate dream for them 🙏🏽 I wanted my chest to literally be bare, but also with a facial expression of almost sadness but surrender (not sure if I achieved that completely 😅). I didn't want to have anything extra around it ; Simple, Honest, Soulful and Natural - that's what I hope this image conveys and I believe a lot of the songs on the album carry that same spirit. I know people imagine award trips as luxury. Stylists. Spending money. Soft life. Meanwhile @_muthaka was flying to Senegal for AFRIMA with only KES 3,000 in her pocket and hoping airline meals would carry her through the trip. No stipend. No spending money. No guarantee she was even getting on the flight until the last minute. What makes this story powerful is the contrast. Publicly, she was becoming one of East Africa’s most celebrated artists. Privately, she was depending on @mordecai_dex to buy water, food and basically survive the trip.

@_muthaka flew to Senegal to accept one of East Africa's most recognised music awards. She had 3,000 KES in her pocket. No stipend. No label support covering the trip. Just the win, the weight of it, and a contract back home that was paying her roughly 1,000 KES in royalties every two to three months. In this episode she gets candid about a version of the music industry story that people love to tell. The signing. The award. The recognition. What gets left out is the financial reality underneath all of it the royalty payments that amount to almost nothing, the contracts that last a decade and limit creative freedom, and the moment an artist has to decide whether visibility is worth the cost of staying.
