My muse @jessicachastain and I hard at work at our first Tammy Wynette fitting in Nashville. I love the way she thinks and creates and dreams about her characters and it is truly rewarding to watch each person we’ve built come to life. First I find it out in the “wild” at estate sales, vintage dealers, private collectors and costume houses & then we find it together in the fitting room mirror. We’ve had so many AHA moments together and I’m so grateful to be so creatively fulfilled. Recreating an outfit can be so informative when designing costumes for a character. It’s a chance to get to know them, exactly as they were. The brilliant @abesylviamightyreal wrote a scene based solely off of an image of Tammy Wynette in those famous yellow pants. Striking the balance of matching the research and dressing the actor is the kind of work that makes this job so much fun! #fyc #periodcostume #costumedesign #tammywynette

George Jones always made an impression. Introducing him in a Nudie Suit for our series made so much sense to me! The process of designing can be so much fun so I thought I’d take you through it. NASHVILLE I spent some time with the team at the George Jones Museum in Nashville studying George’s beautifully curated closet. All of the little details matter so I had my face pressed up to the glass studying the buttonholes, pocket placements and rhinestone settings. @the_george_jones NEW YORK CITY I had a strong vision of cornflower blue and coral to introduce our George in and found the most incredible Satin Faille at @bandjfabrics in New York City. BROOKLYN Before I had even finished reading the scripts, I called the legendary @jimmy.makes.things and asked if he would work on the Nudie Suits with me. I came across a vintage cowboy boot I loved the detailing on, and asked Jimmy to help me transform the pattern into a full suit. His precision and incredible skill shine through so beautifully on the finished suit! LOS ANGELES I had the suit made by the incomparable Jaime at Jaime Custom Tailoring. His years and years of western wear were a gift to me on this project. He’s dressed so many country legends including George himself! WILMINGTON Our in house tailoring team was led by Alice Blake Powell, who I owe a huge thanks to. I genuinely think she has a magic wand because she was able to pull off tailoring miracles each and every day. Design is all well and good but an excellent on set costumer is what it really takes to make a costume work on camera.
