The border control procedures to enter Transnistria are reminiscent of "Papers, Please", but other than that, it's a perfectly ordinary place, with people just living their lives. However, there are a few of those strange spots where quite a few decades ago, time seems to have decided that it would not move along any further.

Tiraspol and Bender are the two major cities of Transnistria, the unrecognized breakaway region in the east of Moldova. Politics aside (it's complicated), it's a really quite interesting place. It has its own currency (the Transnistrian Ruble), which is pretty much completely useless anywhere outside of Transnistria as you can exchange it only there. Also, if you like Ladas, Brutalist architecture, and other remnants of the USSR, you'll not be disappointed.
