« La pratique de Luca Resta s’inscrit dans une réflexion sur la circulation des images, la mémoire culturelle et les formes contemporaines du récit. » @lg_loic@_lucaresta_ explore une pratique où l’intervention sur l’image révèle la matérialité du geste, entre action, altération et réécriture.

We are pleased to announce the participation of the 𝗦𝗲𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗮 𝗕𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝟮𝟲.
Presenting newly commissioned works by 𝗔𝘇𝗶𝘇𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗻 (𝗨𝗭/𝗞𝗭/𝗨𝗞) and 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮 (𝗜𝗧).
𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀: 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 unfolds as a constructed situation rather than a statement. The title proposes a condition: what is considered precious may collapse into insignificance, while what is dismissed as nothing can, under certain circumstances, regain visibility, meaning, or symbolic charge.
Situated within Malta’s maritime context, the Pavilion approaches the sea as a space where value is continually unsettled—where material, memory, labor, and myth circulate and are redefined.
The recurring participation of the Sea Pavilion at the Malta Biennale resists the logic of singular events and fixed outcomes. Instead, it operates as an ongoing dialogue—a continuous recalibration of meaning.
Curated by Vlad Sludskiy and Azad Asifovich; Pavilion Director: Asli Samadova.
Commissioned by 𝗧𝗮(𝗿)𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝟲 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 in partnership with 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and (𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗔) 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲.

@_lucaresta_
Born in 1982 in Seriate, Italy, and based in Paris, Luca Resta is an artist whose work explores repetition, standardisation, and the overlooked aesthetics of everyday life.
Like a contemporary archaeologist, he collects disposable objects such as plastic packaging, cutlery, and cardboard, and transforms them into poetic sculptural forms that question visibility, value, and memory.
At La Junqueira, Luca will deepen his exploration of imitation and material transformation. Working with reclaimed marble, he plans to create a new series of sculptures inspired by Lisbon’s archaeological collections, playing with time, texture, and absurdity to craft fictional relics of the future.
We’re excited to welcome him and see where this journey through true imagination will lead.
Graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Bergamo (2008), and awarded the Prix Carré sur Seine (Paris, 2022), his work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions by international institutions such as OTO Sound Museum (Zurich), Venice Biennale, Triennale Design Museum (Milan), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), MACRO (Rome), MUCEM (Marseille).
