FALSEWORK ll by Kyle Moreland - @_kylemorland
2026 | Mild steel | Plein Street (Opposite ABSA)
Through the manipulation of materials, Morlandâs sculptures address issues of subjectivity and social representation, expressing a fascination with spatial relations. Made with the precision of an engineer, his sculptures often appear as misplaced industrial parts. Construction supplies are his medium of choice, from mild steel sheeting to commercial paint. The scale of his sculptural work often compels viewers to measure themselves against the work. The sculptures speak of a playful engagement with contrasting notions of form, scale, weight and context. Sometimes Morland uses the offcuts of his sculptures to make new work, re-evaluating the use and form of commonly discarded materials.

WEST-MORLAND - Devine Mercy (2025)
aluminium and panty 30 x 66 x 28 cm
A collaborative sculpture by WEST-MORLAND @w35t_ & @_kylemorland , currently on a group show: A BEAST WITH TWO BACK at @avagallery.za , curated by @gooddaygracie & @keely.shinners
This group exhibition is grounded by a shared fascination with artist couplesââcouples who happen to be artists, or artists in relationship. Couples who find themselves in relationship because of a shared passion for art, couples who encourage and inspire each other to make, couples whose respective practices are marked by a sense of collaboration, consciously or unconsciously.
đ¨ Forged by Hand, Shaped by Art
Â
Kyle Morland (@_kylemorland ) takes raw materials and forges them into sculptures that twist the rules of space, form, and balance. His pieces, crafted with tools of his own design, challenge perceptions of precision and chaosâmelding both into works that feel alive. When art and craftsmanship collide, new possibilities unfold.

blank is pleased to present âNotes on a gridâ, a solo exhibition by Kyle Morland (b.1986, Johannesburg) and his sixth with the gallery.
This exhibition has 11 starting points: 11 sculptures, variously formed in stainless steel, aluminium, and plaster. They act as 11 coordinates or cues. They are prompts, a network of parallels and perpendiculars that render sequence non-linear but in chorus and company. In this way, Kyle Morlandâs latest exhibition, âNotes on a gridâ, is a gathering.
Join us for the opening on Thursday, 31 October, at 6pm
