Last week I marked my calendar with another first… my first poetry reading!! A big thank you to Dom for curating a space for language arts, community, expression and vulnerability! Happy 1YR to her event, Sometimes I Think Too Much - SITTM🎈 Mad grateful to the other artists who shared space w/ me and everyone who shared kind words and reflections. You do not know how much it means to me. xx I read 4 poems in total. The first was A Journey by Nikki Giovanni, who just recently passed - RIP. I discovered ‘A Journey’ only recently and have been wrapped in its embrace ever since. I then read 3 of my own poems and am able to share a video in this post of one, called Fleeting. Happy International Womens Day (on Sunday)💋✨ I have so many incredible women in my life that have supported me, guided me, taught me, championed me and I will forever lift up women and gender-diverse folks! What a lot of people DONT know about me, is that before I started in fashion I was pursuing a career in MUSIC marketing. After losing my job very early in my career because of COVID19, I knew that the music industry would take a long time to recover from such a devastating global hit on our industry. Regardless, I found ways to integrate music into what would become my fashion career. Working with musicians, learning the systems from an artist team perspective, growing my expertise in production, project management, pr, publicity, creative direction etc. paired with my continuous education in the field of marketing has uniquely positioned me for a career I knew I wanted, but wasn’t quite sure existed, because i was building it for myself in real time. Most people know me from my career in FASHION which has spanned across 5 years of insanely incredible experiences. Fashion has always been apart of my life as a mode of expression, connection and creativity; so getting to build a career around it is something im very grateful for. As I continue to expand my career nationally & internationally, im reminded of the fact that sometimes we get turned away from what it is we wanted or had planned. Never knowing or expecting that something way better was being formed in the background.
