Softness meets strength. Beneath the Surface draws inspiration from the swan, exploring the tension between fragility and power. What appears calm and effortless carries an underlying intensity, a quiet force that reveals itself through movement, structure, and presence. This collection reflects the desire to remain composed while holding something deeper beneath. Silk painting creates fluid, water-like surfaces that echo stillness in motion, while wool roving felting on organza builds soft yet structured forms, suggesting both protection and pressure. Each look moves between serenity and command, openness and restraint. It reveals that elegance is not fragile, but a balance of control and emotion, where delicacy and strength exist within the same form. @_jun.c_ @june.studi0

On the runway Jun Chen @_jun.c_ from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago SAIC @saicpics @saicfashiondesign 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 at Global Fashion Graduate Show South Africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦  See all the designers’ projects from link in bio or /events/global-fashion-graduate-south-africa-2025#/projects “Jun Chen is a senior fashion design student at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Born in China and raised in the United States, they use fabric manipulation to explore emotion and transformation. Their collection, Held In Gray, explores the paradox of protection and pressure. “Dense wool conveys warmth and solitude, while lace offers transparency and fragility. Organza and tulle add volume without weight, layering the body in forms that veil without fully concealing. Rendered in gray and silver, each garment embodies suspension, safe yet restrained, quietly yearning for release and transformation.” From Oct 21–23, the UNESCO City of Design became the new capital of fashion futures, as Global Fashion Graduate South Africa 2025 brought together emerging designers, educators, and global industry leaders for three days of runway shows and powerful conversation. Hosted at Wonderland Film Studios, Global Fashion Graduate South Africa opened Week of Fashion Cape Town, and is proudly presented by Arts Thread @artsthread with Cape Town Fashion Council @ctfc_za , and produced by Group of Creatives @grpcr8
