New rules mark a new era of Formula 1. A rare moment where the possibilities still feel unknown. As a huge F1 fan, the season opener is one of the most exciting points on the calendar, and it is always a pleasure to work on something connected to it, especially with such a significant shift in the sport. This was a great one to create, centred on the tension, speed and precision of F1 in just under a minute. Setting my alarm for 4am is a big change from standing in the rain at Melbourne for the opener last year. I'm not sure which I prefer more. #Formula1 #MotionDesign #3danimation #cgi

Some recent visual exploration, mostly C4D and Redshift, with the occasional Houdini experiment sneaking in. Been enjoying pushing things further and want to keep diving into Houdini, plus start bringing more TouchDesigner into the mix, which I've slowly been trying to wrap my head around. Plenty more to figure out.

With Formula 1 returning this weekend, I thought I’d share some BTS shots and ideas that didn’t make the final cut from my February season launch piece. I experimented a lot on this project, trying all sorts of techniques and things I hadn’t done before (and spending countless hours running simulations like pyro, smoke, flip tanks, particles, and cloth). Not everything made it into the final edit, but those experiments helped shape the shots that did, so it wasn’t all in vain! Anyway, I thought I’d share a few of those here. #formulaa1 #f1 #motiondesign #cinema4d #behindthescenes

Been playing around with the Partition Modifier in C4D this week. Proper interesting tool, but the lack of UVs made it a pain in the bum, trying to get a texture on there that didn't just slip around when the animating was the issue, not to mention multiple textures. First attempt was duplicating the plane, collapsing it on the first frame, and using a Surface Deformer to track the movement of the animated plane. In theory it should have allowed me to keep the UVs intact. It made sense on paper. In practice, not so much. Second time around, I copied the animated plane, collapsed that, textured the collapsed mesh, then dropped the animated plane into a Connect object. On the textured version I used a Mesh Deformer, referenced the Connect object, set it to Surface and hit Initialise. Thankfully that did the trick. Threw it in a Thicken for some extra depth and that was all really! #motiondesign #redshift #3d #cinema4d #design

January dailies. Tried to make a render every day throughout Jan (28 in the end). Some were a five-minute job, others took a few hours. All C4D + Redshift. On one hand it was a fun exercise and definitely got the creative juices flowing. On the other hand, it just sort of feels like adding to the visual noise of the internet, creating digital litter. Fun to do but not sure I’d repeat it. #motiondesign #redshift #cinema4d
