“After a group of racist punks threatens a Chinese restaurant, a cook on parole grapples with whether to take matters into his own hands to defend the community.”
This project started all the way back in 2021 while I was a junior in film school. A whole 5 years ago.
Making a short based on my family, let alone an action short is no easy feat. Everyone called me crazy for the vision I had in store for this. And they were right to. But I had a hook in me to see this thing through.
When I wrote the first draft of NO TROUBLE it was post pandemic. I was just angry with the world. I couldn’t stop thinking about the violence towards Asian Americans. The hate. The victims who suffered.
As an Asian American whose family not only worked their asses off, fought for this country, and endured injustices that still haunt my mind to this day, I knew I had to something. I was compelled to tell their story.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to the entire cast and crew who were involved in the process of making this project. The amount of favors, late nights, and artistry put into this, I can never truly repay.
Lastly, I’d like to thank my grandparents, who had the strength to endure and the dedication to build a good life for their children.
I’ll be sharing tons of content and BTS about NO TROUBLE in the coming weeks so stay tuned!
Enough of all that. Hope you enjoy👊

NO TROUBLE is easily the most difficult and personal project I’ve ever completed. I’m honored to be able to tell an important story based on my immigrant grandparents and their experience with racism as small business owners.
To all the people that made this possible from prep to post, I can’t thank you enough.
Lots more to come👊
Wow. What an unreal week. Got to pre-viz with some of the baddest stuntmen and filmmakers alive. Thank you for the laughs, generosity, knowledge, and collaboration. Can’t wait to do the real thing. 👊
Shout out to @tmpstacademy@gabejwlkrnunez for the dope facility.
A dream come true.
