At #12, we are heading to South America to one of the windiest corners of the Peruvian coast.
#12 Paracas, Peru 🇵🇪
Located inside a protected National Reserve, Paracas is famous for its reliable thermal wind that kicks in like clockwork. The bay is enormous, offering acres of flat water and plenty of space to escape the other kiters.
Because of the U-shape of the bay, it is incredibly safe. Even though the wind pushes you away from the main launch, you just drift to the other side of the bay rather than out to sea.
The only downside? The Humboldt Current. The water here is surprisingly cold for a desert spot, so bring a thick wetsuit.
The Scorecard:
🧈 Butter: 9.0 (Exceptional flat sections inside the reserve)
💨 Wind Quality: 8.5 (Strong, dense thermal wind almost every afternoon)
👾 Room to Ride: 8.0 (The bay is massive, plenty of space for everyone)
❄️ Water Temp: 4.0 (Cold Pacific water. A 4/3mm wetsuit is standard.)
🛡 Hazard Level: 9.0 (Very safe, sandy/muddy bottom, enclosed bay)
🏆 Overall Score: 7.7
