CAST ANNOUNCEMENT
Jason Jefferies is Martin ‘Marty’ Symonds
Marty was born in Dubbo before moving to Coffs Harbour at the age of nine. While in Coffs, he gained three siblings and lost one father who started a new family with a Yoga instructor in Noosa. As Coffs rent became too high for an ever stagnant Centrelink payment, the family moved to Bowraville in 2015. Determined to support his family, Marty looked for the highest paying job he could find, unfortunately relying on a Daily Telegraph smear article about overpaid teachers for his info. He powered through a Bachelor of Education at the Coffs Harbour campus of Southern Cross University. After taking a break for severe emotional distress brought on by the students bullying him during his practical experience, Marty became the first in his family to receive a degree and landed a job teaching Human Society and its Environment subjects at Orara High School. This uncharacteristic swerve in good fortune was promptly ended by the pause of all in-person learning across NSW in 2020 and Marty now finds himself doing a very poor job running his sparsely attended classes over Zoom.
