@designtofestival has officially kicked off and there are oodles of interesting exhibitions, installations and programming to witness over the next few days. I’m excited to be back this year exhibiting T(h)reads, a window installation at
@stormhorsetattoo (Dundas & Euclid).
The blanket, an object with complex history dating back centuries, holds cultural significance across the globe and has continued to function as a symbol of protection, warmth and comfort across generations. Drawing inspiration from this commonplace but important cloth, this installation considers how a blanket can create a sense of security, add coziness to a space, evoke memory and more.
Through the techniques of sewing and quilting, ‘T(h)reads’ comes together as a conceptual quilt and soft sculpture that consists of previously owned textiles.
