Dream cage is a project made by @_jainit_ during Tell a story workshop with @indrajitkhambe . Read below about her project.
I have long struggled with mental health & growing up, I spent a lot of time daydreaming another version of myself - one that was happier, made art and took up space in the world. That desire stayed with me into adulthood, except I was now supposed to be living it. Instead, it began to feel like that version of me existed only within those dreams - trapped and just out of reach. Dream Cage comes from that distance and from yearning for something that doesn’t quite exist. It began as a poem I wrote a few years ago, and during this workshop, I realised the images I was making were orbiting the same feeling.
Professionally, I’m often bringing someone else’s vision to life, and over time, I lost touch with my own. So somewhere along the way, I stopped expressing myself.
This workshop became a way back - where I was encouraged to look inward, understand what I’m drawn to emotionally, and translate that into images. It also created a space where sharing your work and asking questions felt extremely safe. Being around people from all walks of life, all making deeply personal & compelling work also reminds you that there are no real barriers to making images - something that Indrajit sir gently & actively nurtures throughout the workshop.
