We’re excited to include Jack Bailey’s There’s a Gorilla in This Movie (2025) in this year’s shorts program! 🎞️🍿There’s a Gorilla in This Movie is an experimental film about the attention economy, inspired by the 2010 selective-attention experiment where viewers often miss a gorilla walking through a basketball game. It invites audiences to confront what they choose to notice and what they don’t.
Jack Bailey (he/him) is a writer/director/editor with a BFA in Film Production from the University of British Columbia. His background is in editing. He has directed several short documentaries for CBC, one of which was nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 2025 Leo Awards. He wrote/directed two short films and several music videos. For which he won best screenplay at the Vancouver Short Film Festival and Best Visualizer at the Toronto International Music Video Awards.
