The SMILE (Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer) is the primary joint solar wind mission between the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). It is designed to capture the first images and videos of the solar wind crashing into Earth's magnetic shield,to understand the Sun-Earth connection by measuring the solar wind and observing its dynamic interaction with Earth's magnetosphere, helping to better forecast severe space weather and geomagnetic storms.
