Time for a reintroduction.
For anyone new, Hi! I’m Heather 👋🏽 I live and work by the sea in Folkestone with my two little pals who keep me very busy. When I’m not at my studio in Folkestone’s Creative Quarter, you can usually find us at the beach.
Motherhood has unravelled and reknitted my identity more than I could have imagined. But I think I’m finding myself again. And a new self as well. It’s an almighty juggle isn’t it? But I’m loving it, just trying to find my balance and stay afloat.
I make lots of things by hand in my Folkestone studio including these hand-knotted lampshades. And run lots of creative workshops. Six years ago my wedding got cancelled because of Covid 🙈 I made the macrame panels for my wedding dress and Janet, in the studio next to mine, made my beautiful dress. @draftstitch
We got married a year later, minus the party! Just before my daughter was born 🤍
As well as making products and running workshops I also love working on freelance projects, commissions and consultancy.
Every order is wrapped in spotty brown paper because, why not?
I did a BA and then an MA at the RCA in Knitted Textiles. We did lots of machine knitting and I loved every minute of it. I knew straight away that I wanted a studio and to never stop knitting!! Have been doing this for over 15 years now.

I am teaming up with local yoga studio and cafe @yokefolkestone to offer a weekend of Creativity, Nourishment, Rest and Movement. Ollie will be providing nourishing food throughout the weekend and Jade will be guiding our yoga and relaxation sessions, whilst I will be leading the creative making and workshop sessions. Our weekend will conclude with a visit to the new @seascrubsauna

A very different and lovely project I’ve been working on lately. Thank you Eliza @rest_yoga_ for letting me share your story.
🧶 🧶 🧶
Eliza came to my studio with a pile of knitted triangles, she told me how her grandmother had always knitted for them as children, but when she developed dementia she began just knitting triangles. All shapes and sizes. She had had an idea for a long time to turn these into a blanket that she could give to her mother, which could eventually be passed down the family. The idea really struck a chord with me and I found this such a touching tribute and a lovely way to preserve each stitch her grandmother had lovingly made.
It was such a joyful project to work on, taking each shape and piecing them together using her grandmothers yarn. Little fragments of time. Whilst I watched this blanket grow it made me think about these three women, about the comfort the blanket would bring, about the nature of textiles and their ability to connect us and hold memories, tell stories. I’ve been thinking a lot about how these textile processes are steeped in domesticity and femininity, but how powerful this is and how they can be so much more. Because these crafts were and still are carried out at home they are still frequently devalued as ‘hobbies’ rather than seen as an art form.
I hope the blanket brings joy and comfort 🤍
