āThe World You Created is Terribleā¦ā
Full video available here bc Instagram is stinky and wonāt post the whole thing: https://youtu.be/fNPsWgqSLks?si=GZv-dLHpQfXgGVv2
-I recently organised a performance piece based on my experiences growing up in the Scottish Borders and the rumour mill, religious dogma and general nastiness growing up in a small town for my college unit in public practice. I created the costume, sculpture, and wrote the entire prose you hear in the video. When the sculpture was smashed, it revealed scrolls of paper with some half true stories based on my childhood. Some based in reality, some fake. Audiences were encouraged to take them, destroy them or share them with others.
Sometimes I remember I have free will and can dress like an egg god and destroy shit and it feels great.
This was proposed to the Museum of Rural Life but they never got back to me (wonder why lol) so this was performed behind my college campus as a semi-proposal. This is one of the more ambitious pieces of work Iāve done and i was definitely crapping my pants the whole time so be nice x
āMotherās Kissā
This is my final project for my first block of my HND Art and Design. I did a wee performance that was filmed by my wife @sockfacesimpson of me making/giving birth to my foal sculpture at my college campus. The video features written proses based on diary entries and many horsey puns/references while I make my baby āMegan Thee Mareā. I lof pony and making weird stuff š
bits Iāve done as of late including some stone carving. Iām focussing on maternal connections with horses and their foals as a metaphor for the struggles of motherhood and generational ties. From birth, foals are kept with their mother for an extended period of time as a source of comfort during obedience training and for protection against potential prey. Even when the fully grown horses have moved on to other stables, they are still able to recognise their mothers and keep close to them š“
