Gabriel Meyer, a native of the Philadelphia area, is a trombonist, saxophonist, and composer known for his dynamic improvisations and inventive compositions. Currently a student of Temple
University, he has refined his craft under the guidance of acclaimed musicians including Norman David, Rob Edwards, and Vicente Archer. He has led performances throughout Philadelphia
with a variety of ensembles including sextet, nonet, and big band. These ensembles have been joined by musicians such as John Swana, Norman David, Neil Podgurski, and Caleb Wheeler Curtis. His approach to music is defined by intensity, curiosity, and an unrelenting commitment to creative expression.
With his project New Inventions, Gabriel set out to explore the music of his heroes, Anthony Braxton and Steve Lacy, alongside his mentor, Norman David. Together, they revisited compositions by these two creative pioneers, using them as a means for new creative investigations. What started as a tribute soon evolved into another proving ground for Gabriel’s compositional output.
