I bought this painting from the antique market behind our flat in Florence, in Piazza Savonarola. The angels and the sisters keep me warm.
In the summer of 2023 I wrote quite a few songs. Most of the music I love is bare bones and I’ve always wanted to make something stripped back to the point of skeletal. With just my multi track, mic, guitar and drum machine (hammond auto-vari from 1974, best non-human collaborator ever🤍) I made some demos that gave expression to the emotional landscape of the previous year. I was happy with them and had a yearning to keep going. In August I found out I was pregnant. Since then, life sped up, it was a struggle just to pick up my guitar. I’m the last one of my friends to have a baby and I remember one of them telling me years ago about the switch to internal creativity. Sphinx is in the world now, specifically Florence, where we’ve been living since January. Now that he’s here and enhanced my life in every way, I can feel my muses coming back to me. Grateful to everyone who listens, still, and to the people who let me know that what I’ve made in the past moves them. More to come, with @jam____city and I’s new bandmate, born 15/4/24 🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽🪽
