“100% legal, safe and guaranteed” ENVY x EXIT presents “The Call” This Friday 30th January 2200-0300 EXIT Demdike Stare Natalie JayJay Mother + Installation by Dominic Cooper Advance tickets via Resident Advisor £15 OTD - Seen as a curveball for some at the time, but to anyone paying attention it was clear that when “The Call” dropped in ’22, UKG and its associated offspring had already been a part of Demdike Stare’s DNA for a while. Released as a limited mixtape on their own DDS label, the duo mix and slice a barrage of iykyk cuts, ranging from utter four-to-the-floor damage to syncopated chops, perfectly balancing the slightly-sinister / melancholic affectations of Hardcore with the joyous ramble emanating from secular Sunday morning churches like the Elephant & Castle pub and The Scala: a hallmark of the best tracks from this period, and a time when producers were reluctant to stay in a lane, and dance music was seemingly in a perpetual state of innovation and flux. UK Garage was forming its own sonic signature that was much as much deep, deadly subs as it was peak-time soul. M1 Organs and skipping percussion were the bedrock to very cheeky vocal flips that playfully pushed timestretching technology to its limits. Sampling was becoming more sophisticated but still experimental, with the bleeding edge of Jungle in recent memory, continuing to taint productions with a raw crunch.   ENVY x EXIT presents “The Call’ will celebrate this mad melting pot of styles and sounds in full, with Demdike Stare debuting a unique take on the mix for the first time since its release. They’ll be joined by Natalie (ENVY), JayJay (EXIT) and Mother, with a specially commissioned visual installation by Dominic Cooper. @demdikestare @_ennndeee_ @mothermrk @jamesjjjohnson @d0mfrancis Nobody turned away for lack of funds - Unwaged / UC tier available via RA or get in touch via email [email protected] Pirate radio advert voiceover courtesy of @beckykilshaw

If you open your mouth, it’ll stick to your throat What the French call 𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘤 Even Jesus loves all this you know? and us  So we’ll be sexy in this life and afterwards  There’s something wrong with that door   I don’t trust doors without handles that you can’t touch with wings and walls and motors and flashing dots  with guards behind them  You’ll let out the heat if you lock it Give us our last day   no breeze now back to no air whatsoever  You can’t see but you can tell because all the lights are on that there’s a frost up the Stretford Mall Centre, Precinct, Exchange, Square, Elephant and Castle has frozen over  It tastes Horrible by Versace    I’m sorry I can’t get across to you  You’re breaking and I’m out of the juice  ——————————————————————— Dominic Cooper (b. ENVY x EXIT presents “The Call” Friday 30th January 2200-0300 EXIT Demdike Stare Natalie JayJay Mother “One hundred percent legal, safe and guaranteed” A curveball only if you weren’t paying close attention. “The Call” tapped into something already in Demdike Stare’s bloodstream — deep subs, skipping rhythms, blurred genres, and the afterglow of a scene in constant motion. ENVY x EXIT now summon the duo to unveil The Call live for the first time. Joined by Natalie, JayJay and Mother, with visuals by Dominic Cooper. Early bird tickets available via Resident Advisor. @demdikestare @_ennndeee_ @mothermrk @jamesjjjohnson @d0mfrancis

Not one of Detroit alone, but also the pipeline of harder, psychedelic and stripped-back material that came out of Chicago: from the raw trax of early Robert Armani & Gene Hunt, to the subsequent birth of "Ghetto House" via the late greats DJ Funk, Paul Johnson & DJ Deeon. The confluence of these styles emanating from the black neighbourhoods of two of the biggest cities in Midwest America could be heard solidly throughout the 90s, immortalised on mixes like Jeff Mills' "Live At The Liquid Room" and records such as Joey Beltram's "Game Form". Expect a lot of compressed 909, chopped-up vocals and mad live edits!        𝒯𝒾𝒸𝓀𝑒𝓉𝓈 𝑜𝓃 𝑅𝒜: 𝒽𝓉𝓉𝓅𝓈://𝓇𝒶.𝒸𝑜/𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓃𝓉𝓈/𝟤𝟤𝟥𝟧𝟧𝟩𝟤

Long time bessies from the North and Saaf, 'MEN/OPAUSE/TASM' will focus on a sound called House. Think Aaron-Carl, Romanthony, Jamie Principle, Blake Baxter, Cajmere, DJ Deep, DJ Sneak, Paris Grey...the ground is fertile even if we are now less so! Still fresh though, and always turned out.
