My colorwork sweater is done!!! Just in time for spring 😂
First off, I want to to thank everyone who offered me advice and words of encouragement during this project. My family doubted I would ever this finish sweater (traitors), but y’all believed in me.
For those of you who haven’t been following along, I fell hard for a vintage Ralph Lauren sweater on etsy (swipe to the end) in a mad search for the perfect colorwork pattern. I decided to make a pattern for it, despite that fact that I had never knitted a yoked sweater before. Writing the colorwork chart was surprisingly tame. The sizing, on the other hand, was a beast of a different kind.
In the end, I restarted the yoke 9 times until I was satisfied with the fit. I started over completely 4x. The other times I only ripped back to the turtleneck. And then there were all the other parts of the sweater I frogged but didn’t keep track of 😂 Another part that was particularly difficult was the raglan increases after the yoke. (Spoiler alert for the video at the end — I frogged that version and the two subsequent attempts)
BUT I’m happy to say, I’m thrilled with the result. The fit is exactly as I had envisioned it. I need to give it a final wet block, during which I will attempt to make the sleeves ever so slightly longer — they always end up shrinking with wear…
The yarn I used was an absolute perfect match for this pattern. I knew right away when I saw it that I wanted to use undyed
@rauwerk_wool which is merino wool from Munich sheep 🐑 I absolutely adore this yarn, and use it whenever suitable. The dark grey from Rauwerk wasn’t available at the time though, so I used Wendelstein Wolle, which pairs very nicely with the Rauwerk. I purchased all 3 colors at
@rauwerk_der_laden my fave lys 🤗
I used the #agnessweater by
@camillavaddk to help with the colorwork chart and the #celestesweater by
@petiteknit to help with the short row shaping below the yoke.
