The museum building was designed for the Gothenburg Exhibition (Jubileumsutställningen i Göteborg) in 1923.
Not sure when the picture is dated or who took it. Certainly at some point between 1928, when the 7 medallions of about 2,5 m of diameter with motifs created by Carl Milles that were above the arch vaults were taken down, and 1943 when the book this photograph is extracted of was published.
The mounting devices can still be seen above the seven arches.
These originally were to be made of bronze, probably they did not have time to be finished on time, and temporary ones were created in wood and plaster which could then be replaced.
Wonder where those beauties went...
