i made this song for my lover in the early months of our relationship, which means it’s not far from being six years old. think we were seventeen. i wanted it to sound like one of the last nights of summer.
at the time i was listening to a lot of crooner music from the late fifties and early sixties, like the flamingos, nat king cole, andy williams on the pop side, and marty robbins (my guardian angel) and party cline on the country side, as well as a lot of bossa nova. this was one of my attempts at what i thought of as a “neo-croonerism.” i think it captures something about how the two of us were feeling at the time, and i always liked it, but never released it for one reason or another. “take my hand (2020 mix)” by ekblad is out now, on all platforms ‼️

My debut album “Delft” is out now. It is about a year’s worth of work. It was at times extremely fulfilling and extremely difficult to work on. It is named after Delftware, a kind of Dutch pottery that displays idealistic landscapes, similar to the unrealistic fantasies I lament about on the record. The saintly @levibradford gave indispensable aid on the mixing and mastering as well as teaching me several musical principles found on the record. One thousand thank yous to him, to the one who first created, to my parents for forcing me to learn piano as a child, to my three former piano teachers, to my cousin Carter for inspiring me to pick up the ukulele which lead me to learn guitar, and to all of my friends and fans. I couldn’t have done it without you. That is an awful cliché, but now I understand why it is so commonly said.
It is the truth.
Now, enough talk.
Please, listen to “Delft” (in order.)
