💪🏽💸 My greatest flex is my purpose and impact! I am so honoured to be nominated for the Women of Influence Awards presented by @rbc 🎉 About a year ago, I thought really hard about what I would want to be written on my headstone. The words that came to mind were live, love, and influence. I almost instantly went out and tattooed those words on my forearm. In that same moment, I wrote this message to be read in my eulogy: Do not mourn me for to mourn means that I did not achieve. Instead celebrate me, the life I lived, the people I Impacted, the changes I made, and the CRATER I left from being on this earth. You might read this and think “What the heck is going on with this girl” - but when I read this I see a mantra and a non-negotiable way of life. I wake up every day eating, breathing, and living influence - I’m an old woman on a mission that just happens to be in a young woman’s body. I have a calling over my life to impact and influence in ways that often sound crazy - I carry that weight, but I carry it well because you all make it so easy - with your love, support, talents, and your dreams! 🙌🏽🚀 I am so excited for what's to come this season, and I am even more thankful for all of you. Today, we honour: The mothers. The aunties. The godmothers. The community leaders. The “mom” of the friend group. The women raising children they didn’t birth but chose to love anyway. We honour the fathers carrying both roles with grace because motherhood, illness, or loss changed the structure of their home. We honour grieving mothers. Women longing to become mothers. Women mothering through mentorship, protection, prayer, guidance, and presence. Motherhood is care. Motherhood is sacrifice. Motherhood is showing up. And as I prepare to become a mother myself, this season has made me reflect deeply on the matriarchs in my own life. It’s been just over a year since losing my great-grandmother — such a powerful matriarch in my mom's family. And in her absence, I’ve found myself reflecting even more on the strength, faith, wisdom, and covering that my grandmother continues to be for our lineage… and now for my future daughter too. Community-centered motherhood is such a gift. And, on that note, we'd like to take a moment to give a special shoutout to @shesthatmomto for creating such an intentional and supportive space for moms and women navigating motherhood in all of its forms. We didn’t overhaul everything overnight… we just made a few intentional shifts: • prioritizing a cushion that supports us beyond maternity leave • redirecting “nice-to-have” spending into something more meaningful • creating more cash flow to clean up debt and fund what actually matters Here’s what most people dont realize: preparing for a baby isn’t about restricting your life, it’s about positioning yourself for it. That is preparing for income shortages, building savings to cover lifestyle gaps, thinking about future investments for your child (becuase without it inflation will challenge them in their adulthood), and most importantly, creating a sinking fund for parental self-care and maintenance (date nights, occasional staycation, etc).
