A year ago, Eoin and I performed 𝘛𝘈𝘐𝘉𝘏𝘚𝘌. Eoin had spent a year researching and writing about ghosts, and this piece aimed to further explore his ideas through movement, sound and light.
Core among these was the idea of repetition being a form of haunting, a persistence of spirit. Breath too, became an important symbol of the borders of bodily contact and its remnants. This took the form of creating the initial passage through an on-stage mic, capturing Eoin’s breath and touch, mixed and manipulated live by me.
We developed this into a score composed almost entirely of blending live and pre-recorded distortions of breath. The only other sounds in the score are a gong, punctuating and contrasting the layers of breath with resonant impact, and electric guitar, which I performed live in tandem with Eoin’s movement.
