After nearly 6 years of @_denude I thought I should probably introduce myself properly 🙃 you’ve mostly just seen photos of my hands, but I’m trying to get better at being in front of the camera! I’m Sophie 👋🏻 co-owner of Denude, toddler-mum and nature-lover. Here I am wearing my trademark stripes, thinking about how flipping grateful I am to be surrounded by amazing humans, doing so much for our planet. I’m also lucky enough to have a network of people who do so much to support me, and therefore the business. This week my parents were deep-cleaning the shop. Probably not how they envisaged their retirement / annual leave 🫠 So really this is a personal message to say a massive THANK YOU! Thank you to every customer who has spent money here, whether that’s a one-off or a weekly shop. You’re the reason we can remain open. Thank you to my family, who regularly give up their time to support me in any way they can, be that scrubbing the shelves or providing last-minute childcare. Thank you to my friends (most of whom started out as customers!), who always ask me about the shop. It’s such a small thing, but a reminder that they care about me and my beliefs. And thank you to the lovely staff, both past and present, who have always gone above and beyond to help our customers! If we’re not your local refill shop, then please support yours. Take note of the old containers and the fact that I haven’t filled everything to the brim. Both of these things are completely normal. You do not need brand new containers and there is no obligation to fill your tubs and bags up completely! This is an example of my shopping for this week, sometimes I need much more, sometimes less. A super easy drink we’ve been having on repeat since the weather’s been warmer 🙌🏻 • 1 tbsp dried nettles • 1 litre boiled water • juice of 1 lemon • 1-2 tbsp of honey or other sweetener Add the nettles to the boiled water, cover and allow the mix to steep until it cools. Add in your sweetener, stir and pop in the fridge for at least 4 hours. Strain, add in lemon juice. Serve in a glass with ice. . . . #refillshop #denude #frome #somerset

It’s a day to raise awareness and promote sustainability. We shouldn’t need to be reminded, but we do. We’re all busy, we’re all juggling, but our planet needs us. Naturally we’re big advocates of reducing plastic and using your local refill shop. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are so many things you can do to help our planet, most cost nothing at all. Get involved in your local community groups, help plant trees, litter-pick, seed swap + plant wild flowers. Educate your children about the importance of preserving our planet, get them involved in nature-focused activities. Sign petitions, write to your local MP, join demonstrations. Get your voice heard.
