The Lonesome Death of Hermina Frits There’s a lot between me and Hermina that surpasses her fiction… but I’d like to let you form your own relationship with her, free of my (admittedly negative) influence. All you need to know is she died as she lived… alone, in front of her television. After a small bite from what she thought was nothing more than a common house spider, Hermina died a painful but rather uneventful death. The culprit of her demise then turned her cavernous cavities into a home of muscle and bone, a safe space where her babies could grow. After their loving mother did her best to prepare them for the outside world, a beautiful exodus began. They were drawn to the soft glow and rhythmic static of the television, much like their abode herself. …maybe that makes Hermina’s death not so lonesome after all. ~~~~ I was lucky enough to have a couple of friends (@_delfav and @melissajulietlawson ) visit me while on a cross country road trip. Both being amazing artists in their own right, we decided to make a photo during their stay. Working with them reminded of how truly blessed I am to have crossed paths with such creative and wonderful people despite my chronic hermitism and remote residence. Another person of note and thanks is @wolfterrain , for while she did not directly contribute to this photo, she is the reason for its fruition. Jackie is a true beacon of love and light and has planted many seeds in my life that have grown into amazing opportunities. I have been fortunate enough to benefit greatly from her uncanny ability to draw a certain type of people together, a truly rare and beautiful gift. Due to them, (and all of you) I believe I am much less likely to suffer the same fate as the one Hermina Frits endured. Model: @melissajulietlawson Collaborator in Lighting/Set Design: @_delfav

“As Far as the Eye Can See” - medium format, 2024 . The Great Sand Dunes of Colorado are formidable. They stretch 30 square miles at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The land leading to the dunes is very flat, which makes these enormous piles of sand appear even more imposing than they already are. A certified dark sky park, the Great Sand Dunes have one of the highest rates of UFO sightings in the untied states. I didn’t see anything when I was there, however there is something strangely ominous about the park as storms roll in (as seen in slide 2). . . #sanddunes #greatsanddunesnationalpark #film #filmphotography #mediumformatfilm @greatsanddunesnps @greatsanddunesnationalpark

“Andy” - Medium Format Film, 2024 WALL OF TEXT BELOW BUT PLEASE READ IT IS IMPORTANT . This is Andy. He is a fire inspector along the Historic Railroad running through Colorado and New Mexico; the oldest running railroad in the United States. He follows behind the steam train at a set distance, ensuring that no fires have caught from the coal burned to power the train. The fire inspectors have a vital job. One missed coal or burn could result in the destruction of countless historical sites along the hundreds of miles the rail system covers. People like Andy are essential and rarely talked about, but they help keep our history alive. Without the thousands of unnamed support staff operating in and around our vast parks system, the natural and manmade landmarks we enjoy would be inaccessible to the masses. So here’s a little bit about Andy - He was born and raised in Connecticut, and is married to someone who grew up in LA. He liked LA, but thought it was too busy and prefers the quiet of Colorado. He enjoys his time working with trains. He was listening to what sounded like Bob Dylan. He was a very kind man. We should acknowledge and celebrate the work that people like Andy do. It’s so easy to prop up those whose work is public facing and easily seen as transformative. However, it’s people like Andy who keep the most beautiful and important parts of our country alive. It’s no secret that I love the parks. Almost all of my artwork is in or of these natural monuments. But I never take the time to thank those who act as the silent sentinels who devote their lives to protecting the history that if lost, breaks the connection we have to the land which we have relied on for thousands of years. Without people like Andy, we lose part of ourselves and destroy the beauty of the natural world. So thank you Andy and thousands like you who do the jobs many never talk about. Without you, we would be lost. . #portrait #filmportrait #mediumformatfilm #mediumformat #photo #filmphotography #hasselblad #parks #firefighters
